Dr. Woo has more than 20 years of experience in teaching music. Her fields of expertise include instruction through the Suzuki violin and traditional methods, chamber music and music theory.
She earned a Doctorate in Musical Arts from the University of Southern California, a Master in Music in Suzuki Pedagogy from the University of Maryland at College Park, and a Bachelor in Music degree from the University of the Pacific. She remains grateful to her teachers including Yo-Wen Liang, James Stern, Ronda Cole, David Salness, Arnold Steinhardt, Suli Xue and Alice Schoenfeld.
Dr. Woo was the recipient of the Sima Mannick Music Scholarship Award, the Barnum-Everett Award, the Sunny Brown Award for the Arts, and received Certificates of Recognition from Phi Kappa Phi and Pi Kappa Lambda honor societies. She has adjudicated at events including the Southwestern Youth Music Festival, the Music Teachers Association of California V.O.C.E. Competitions and Panel auditions, and has presented workshops on violin pedagogy at the University of Southern California.
Her students have been featured as soloists with symphony orchestras and programs including NPR’s From the Top. They have been selected winners of various competitions including the V.O.C.E., A.S.T.A., and C.A.P.M.T. Competitions, the Bay Area Music Association Competitions, and the American Protégé International Competitions. Many of her students have continued to study music at schools including University of Southern California, UCLA, Rice University, and Yale.
Dr. Woo aspires to inspire a little more harmony and kindness through her work in music education.
